Myceen's co-founder Siim Karro received the Young Designer Award SÄSI. The jury highlighted Siim's role of building MYCEEN as a designer with a distinct and forward-looking vision. Congratulations!!

The Estonian Association of Designers gives out this biannual award to recognises a young designer (up to age 35), to support their creative work.

SÄSI Award

Habitare is the leading furniture, design, and interior event in the Nordics. In 2024, we showcased our full range of products and the world’s largest mycelium material sphere.

On the very first day of the event, we were honored with the Habitare Selection prize for _The Most Interesting Phenomenon of the Fair_! This was an absolute surprise, given the number of exhibitors. The jury—consisting of Ulla Solasaari, Fredrik Paulsen, and Tino Nyman—recognized our work for its beautiful designs and the potential large-scale impact of our material as a sustainable building solution.

Overall, the fair was a great success as we engaged with many architects and designers who expressed keen interest in the diverse use cases of our material. Thank you Helsinki.

Habitare's Most Interesting Phenomenon

Myceen has attracted widespread support from institutions around the world, securing over **€2 million in grants** this year alone. Additionally, the company is advancing a seed investment round of €1-1.5 million. Investors can reach out [here](https://myceen.com/investors). This combined funding will bring the novel building materials to the market as the company moves to a larger production space.

### Shift to Climate-Neutral Architecture

As Europe is moving closer to achieve its climate goals all industries need to bring down their emissions 55% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. With mycelium materials we don't need to wait decades—the solution is already in our hands.

Around 75% of EU buildings are inefficient. The target is to renovate 35 mln houses by 2030 for carbon neutrality of buildings. In cities like Paris and London, properties must meet specific energy standards to be rented or sold, a trend that’s becoming more common as we approach the Climate Goals deadline. This shift creates a significant market opportunity for renovation, particularly for sustainable insulation materials.
  
Mycelium-based insulation materials combine efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability. They perfectly demonstrate the circular economy by converting industrial byproducts into high-performing, eco-friendly materials.

### Fast Growth and Global Interest

Myceen started from the design sector while keeping its research focus on building materials where the mass scale application and impact lies. Last year, the company shipped its products to over 15 countries from the US to Singapore receiving high recognition for its products and unmatched quality.

### Pilot Factory and Mycelium Insulation Testhouse

In the next stage, Myceen will move into a pilot factory where it will develop and launch industrial production technology. This expansion will enable the company to broaden its product range and advance the commercialization of mycelium-based building materials - the company has several house producers and resellers waiting for the material.

In an upcoming project Myceen’s insulation materials are tested in a pilot house in collaboration with Timber Architecture Research Center ([PAKK](https://pakk.artun.ee/en)). The test house will be ready in autumn 2024 and mycelium insulation performance will be measured and compared with conventional materials. This will give necessary feedback to move forward with house producers who are already waiting in line.

## Discover the Future of Home Design at the Museum of the Home in London

The Museum of the Home in London’s East End provides a fascinating look into the evolution of domestic life. Dedicated to exploring and reimagining how we live, the museum offers valuable insights into the concept of home.

Myceen is proud to have contributed to the museum’s latest exhibition in the Innovo Room of the Future. In collaboration with Northumbria University’s Interaction Research Studio, we developed custom mycelium-based acoustic and insulation wall panels. These innovative panels, which span an entire wall, are designed to integrate smart devices and future technologies, envisioning the living room of tomorrow.

Museum of the Home

In June 2024 [Tehnopol](https://www.tehnopol.ee/en/) in collaboration with [Cleantech Estonia](https://www.cleantechestonia.ee/) organised an event event that brought together start-ups and 120 honorary consuls from around the world to explore Estonia’s green technology sector. The conference focused on helping Estonian companies expand into international markets and attract investments. We had the opportunity to present our solution to the honorary guests.

Tehnopol is the largest science and business park in the Baltics, located in Tallinn, Estonia. It is dedicated to fostering cutting-edge technology entrepreneurship and advancing the sustainability of the Estonian economy by accelerating the growth of technology-driven businesses. Renowned companies like Skype and Starship Technologies are among its notable residents. Myceen is proud to have participated in Tehnopol’s acceleration program.

Myceen showcased their innovative mycelium materials together with the Estonian deep tech delegation. Wevux is an online resource dedicated to documenting and sharing innovative projects and companies focused on sustainable material experimentation. It aims to promote the development and use of new, eco-friendly materials by providing detailed information about various projects and their geographical locations. 

The Materials Design Map is an interactive tool within this database. It allows users to explore and locate projects related to new materials worldwide. The initiative supports the circular economy by encouraging the development of local, sustainable solutions and fostering connections between designers, companies and potential sponsors.

Myceen in Wevux Material Database

High Ground, a cosy coffee and wine shop in Islington. You can find their entire basement space covered with our acoustic wall panels. 

The primary objectives were to improve the overall aesthetics of the basement and address acoustic issues, using natural materials that can integrate seamlessly with the ambience of the coffee shop.

As the client told, not only did they improve the acoustics, but they also elevated the overall design and ambiance of the space, earning daily admiration from their guests.

Creative Business Cup is an annual global competition that supports and empowers innovative start-ups from over 80 countries. It offers a platform to connect with investors, industry experts and potential collaborators. 

Myceen’s innovative approach earned us the opportunity to represent Estonia and pitch in the finals to international investors and experts. We won the "Most Investable Start-Up" prize at the Investor’s Pitch Competition. Needless to say, we were thrilled to finish in the TOP 5.
